A spectacular adventure where you will have the chance to get up close to the unique wildlife of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. You may also experience vast penguin rookeries and seal colonies on this extraordinary journey as you travel further south to the Antarctic Peninsula.

 

Day 1 Ushuaia
Arrive in Ushuaia. Proceed to hotel on own arrangements.

Day 2 Ushuaia
Spend the day at your leisure in Ushuaia before making your way to the pier to board the MS Expedition in the afternoon. (BD)


Day 3 Ushuaia – Falkland Islands
During the crossing, you will have a chance to learn about the extraordinary human and natural history of the Antarctic region through a variety of lectures and information sessions. (BLD)

Day 4-5 Falkland Islands
The Falkland Islands provide a rare opportunity to witness the biological diversity and extraordinary scenery of the southern islands. Penguins and albatross are abundant here, and the Falklands have the largest Black Browed albatross colony in the world. Port Stanley provides an opportunity to meet the hardy local inhabitants whose colourful houses provide contrast to the long dark winters. (2 BLD)

Day 6-7 Falkland Islands – South Georgia
Sail east towards South Georgia, keeping your eye out for whales and seabirds along the way. (2 BLD)

Day 8-11 South Georgia
Spend three full days exploring the remote island of South Georgia (weather permitting). This former whaling station is home to prolific wildlife and the grave of explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. South Georgia’s huge King Penguin colony is a definite highlight. (4 BLD)

Day 12-13 At Sea
Today you follow Shackleton’s route in reverse as you head south for Elephant Island and the Antarctic Peninsula. (2 BLD)

Day 14-17 Antarctica
Set foot on the dramatic Antarctic continent to experience its unique wildlife and some of the most inspiring scenery in the world. Weather permitting, you will go ashore twice a day to observe Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie penguin rookeries, and encounter Weddell, Crabeater and Leopard seals. You may also get a chance to watch Orca, Humpback and Minke whales and learn about some of the most important and dramatic human expeditions to this remote corner of the world. (4 BLD)

Day 18-19 Drake Passage
Reflect on your adventures and take in some final lectures on the voyage back to Ushuaia. (2 BLD)

Day 20 Ushuaia
Your tour concludes on arrival in Ushuaia (B)
